Greywolf I recall that quote as well, can't remember what vehicle he was referring to though - I may think of it later
On edit: It was when Henry Ford released the Model T, to cut costs it was only available in one colour (black obviously)

Anyhow, here is my $.02 then - even if it isn't truck related.

Henry Ford II (note, not Henry Ford) was having discusions with Enzo Ferrari about purchasing Ferrari - it would be the performance and image leader for Ford, this was in the late 50's
Enzo was initially very willing, as he stood to make a substantial amount of money, not to mention the improvements and cost savings that could be made with parts sharing (could you ever imagine a Ferrari with a 351C???)

Henry Ford and a large financial team from Ford flew across to visit the Ferrari factory in 1963 and go through final discussions before signing the contract.

Part of the contract that Ferrari would be a complete subsiduary of Ford, Enzo agreed, however one of the clauses is that Ferrari had to follow all of the processes and procedures that all other Ford departments had to specifically, and spending of over US$100000 had to be personally aproved by Henry, and go through rigorous steps to get approval for spending.
Enzo felt that this would seriously thwart Ferraris race program, as costs would be cut everywhere, and the lengthy time taken to recieve financial approval would destroy Ferraris ability to design and build engines in such a quick turn around time.

At the 11th hour Enzo would not agree to that clause, and Henry would not budge either.
The agreement was then abandoned, Henry was very frustrated at the amount of time and money he had spent getting the contract to where it got to, with full agreement initially from Ferrari, only then to have it rejected at the last minute.
He then decided he would humiliate Ferrari in his own arena, the race track.
Henry employed Roy Lunn to build a race car to not only beat, but destroy Ferrari on the race track.
The Ford GT was born, loosely based on the Eric Broadley’s Lola GT.
It was presented to the press in April 1964.
In its first LeMans it competed in (1964) the vehicle started to be refered to as the GT40 - in reference to its height, 40 inches.
It came 4th overall, and won the "GT class"
Ford then hired Carroll Shelby to oversee the race program.
Shelby installed the famous 427 "side-oiler" to the GT40.
This was known as the Mark II GT40.
In February 1965, the GT40 won its first race, the Daytona 2000km race, breaking almost every record.
The GT40 competed again at LeMans, all units retiring.
In 1966, 3 GT40's were leading the race at LeMans, and at Henry Fords order, in the final lap they were to slow down, and to cross the finish line all at once, this was to be the final humiliating blow to Enzo.
One of the drivers of one of the cars (can't recall his name) was so frustrated at this decision, braked at the last minute, still creating the 1-2-3 finish, but not all passing the finish line at the same time.

The rivalry intiesified, the GT40 went onto win LeMans from '66 through to '69.

The rivarly remains to this day.
When the Ford GT concept was released asFords 100th birthday present to itself, Ford published that it had been designed and engineered to triumph the 360 Modena Ferrari at everything.
When the GT40 was released to the press, Ford provided a handful of 360 Ferraris as benchmarks to prove this. This infuriated Ferrari, as the vehicles were rental cars, and Ferrari said that they may not have been representative of a normal 360.
Nevertheless the press said the GT comprehensively destroyed the Ferrari...

Keep it coming guys...
