Since I bought my truck last year I've had a vent on the dash that tilts downward every time I hit a bump. I had to take my dash apart today to replace my aftermarket radio mount that broke, so I thought I would look the vent while I had the dash apart.

Here's what I'm talking about...theres three vents in the part of the dash that pops off, these two (the one on the right was the loose one) and one to the left of the gauge cluster...


When I took this off I realized I could easily pop the vent assembly out by undoing 3 phillips screws in the back, this will release the swivel part of the vent and the unit it mounts to, this part:


My fix was to run to the local craft store and buy some sticky felt, you don't need something real thick, just something to increase the friction:


It was sticky on the back and I chose black for the front in case someone could see it in the vent (later found out it would be very hard to spot)


A 9" x 12" sheet of this stuff cost 99 cents and I used about 3/4" x 9" piece to do all three vents.

For the two vents that weren't very loose (I probably could have let them be but I figured I would do it just in case) I cut two smaller pieces and stuck them to the housing, for the really loose one I cut a strip to spread across the entire housing.

I'm pretty sure you could use a flat head screw driver and pop the swivel vent out of the housing without taking the dash apart. After putting everything back together I realized it is basically impossible to see the felt but I'm happy I went with black just in case. It was an easy and cheap fix that I'm glad I finally got around to. Next thing on my to do list is replace the seat heater pads.
