Older engines needed lead in the fuel to keep the valve seats from failing. I had a 390 out of a 64 and run unleaded in it over 1 year. Engine was getting tired and needed a valve job.

Make sure wheel bearings are correctly adjusted too. CougarJohn is correct in replacing in pairs. Your old wheel cylider could be sticking allowing the drivers side brake to get more brake pressure....

I agree with Talltruck. Much easier to fix rear end. The van may have different gear ratios and you would need gears or would have to use the ones from your old axle if they are in good condition.
