I just took the ignition key cylinder out and put a piece of electrical tape over contacts. Now that thing chimes when I open the door and leave the lights on but not when the key is in the ignition.

I still vote for the Cummins 4bt. Install it with zero suspension or frame changes (just make your own mounts), it could easily outlast the truck, plus you get 300 ft lbs of torque and over 20 MPG...

My f150 with the 4bt has got 25mpg on the highway and averages 21-23mpg normally. The worst I have ever got with it was 17 and that was towing 5000lbs.

You can do some measuring, but it likely wont fit. I wouldn't mess around with trying to get a receiver hitch "cheap." Get one that you know is in good shape and designed for your truck...new ones...

I realize that as-is, the deere or cat engines would be unsuitable for on-road use, but could probably be made to work without a ton on re-engineering. Who knows, maybe Deere or Cat wouldn't ever be...
