I wonder what the condition of the OP's radiator is? Maybe it needs to be washed and combed out?

I've had mine pretty hot before towing... I've never heard of a PSD boiling the water before.

You shouldn't need the silicone... but if you want to put a dab around it you can if it makes you feel better.
