Getting a lifter out without removing the head would be a real pain if the lifter would even fit through the pushrod holes in the head. Im not even sure what tool one would put through the pushrod...

The damage to the turbine wheel looks like it could have been a result of the broken piston. It looks like there's a small piece of the piston missing which would have hit the turbine wheel.
