I have been spraying light oil on the undersides of winter driven vehicles essentially every fall for 40 years. I use 2 cycle oil since it atomizes well.

You need to remove the "friction" bolt to allow the mechanism to come out thru the hole. IIRC it is angled almost vertical to come out.
