All someone has to do is shut the engine off, shift it into neutral, then restart the truck and take off!!!

It holds the tube solid so that there is no stress on the boots (I have had the hotside boot blow off two different times in the past).

An exhaust leak will sound like this, it is most likely the passenger side up-pipe with a crack in the flex joint, but it could also be the y-pipe flex joint, or the clamp where the up-pipes feed...
