Why less power?

Why does the 6.2L in the F250 have less power than the 6.2L in the F150?

F150: HP-411, TQ-434

F250: HP-385, TQ-405

The above numbers are from fordvehicles.com.

Can someone explain why a 150 would have more power than a 250?
Will the 250 6.2L be upgraded?

Thanks,
Doug

cuz the 6.2 in the SD is the low cost engine option..

if you want big power Ford basicly expects you to jump to the diesel..

same way the 6.2 in the F150 is the "upgrade" motor...

but on a side note i'm betting it will be super easy to get better numbers out of the SD 6.2 with a quality tuner like a 5star SCT.

I believe it has something to do with octane rating. regular vs premium fuel.

changing pump quality fuel from regular to premium won't net you 26hp/29ftlbs without some serious tuning. I'd bet that the power/torque curve is much different in the SD version, to make for better towing capability.

There is a thread in the Superduty forum where one of the engineers involved in the 6.2 chimed in on a lot of questions.

One of the questions was exactly this.

The Superduty engine, I believe, has different cams, more in line with what a large truck needs instead of a lighter "go fast" vehicle. A flatter torque curve is the result, and is much better suited to a Superduty.

I swear I read that somewhere, just looked real quick but don't remember exactly where. Old age I guess. :-X04

I would disagree a bit on fuel octane not making a difference. Two degrees of total timing( or whatever amount of timing is pulled for the lower octane) could very easily make 26hp/29lbs-ft difference. Remember that's at the crank, we are talking roughly 15 hp difference at the rear wheels.

Now, a cam swap would also make the difference obviously.

Thanks for the info guys. Now I'm undecided on what to do. I was leaning towards a 250 with the 6.2 but now I'm considering a 150 with the 6.2. Decisions, decisions.

to get a f150 with the 6.2, you'll have to get Platnium, Lariat, or Harley Davidson trim levels. For what those trucks are worth, I'm opting to get a F250 with the 6.7L diesel...

So you made the decision? Is that your final answer? :-D joking
