302 EFI...Want more power!
Hey guys, I got a stock 92 302EFI in my 90 F250. I'm looking to get some more power out of it. Any suggestions? I don't want to be told to swap in a 351, as this motor has potential itself.
open to all kinds of suggestions! Thanks, |
search there is a millions threads on it but theres; 6 litre tune up, free flowing exhaust, I6/460 intake tube, SD friendly cam, 1.7 rockers, gt40 heads, motorcraft oil filter, auto light plugs, gap them, fuel filter, LT headers, and bump up the timing. theres so much stuff to do to these trucks just say away from cold air intakes they dont work and the I6/460 intake tube is a fraction of the price and works better. Dont waste your money on chips or spacers it wont do anything for you

Thanks 96ford250,
I know i can easily search for threads on this, but other guys want power for diff reasons, in diff ways in specific areas. I guess I'm just looking for something basic for some more gitty up n go. Your wisdom is being considered. Thank you. |
the biggest problem is the SD system doesnt adapt well to changes so if ur gunna go crazy with it or go past a mild build ur gunna need to get it rechipped or switch to a maf set up

Put a HO cam in it with 1.7 rockers and add a complete exhaust system with longtube headers and you'll have lots more HP.

If his 302 is the original with the 302 firing order wouldn't he have to swap the crank to a 302 HO crank with the 351w firing order to match the 351w firing order of the HO cam?

Is the HO cam lumpier?! what does the 1.7 rockers do in comparison to what my motor has?

I'm being told that by lots of ppl. Dual or single exhaust exit and how big?

this is a spendy option if you use your 4wd, but gears would be an awesome upgrade. throw some 4.10s in there, and it will move a little quicker
|
Conanski, You caught my interest.
Does the HO cam need to be from a SD mustang engine? Will stock injectors keep up with the added power/ air intake? I'm pretty unfamiliar with the 5.0's so I may have a few dumb questions. |
I just found out i have a 91 5.0 HO Cobra motor in the truck. ( did that come in 91 tho?!?! or 93? ) If I go with 1.7 rockers... what kind of problems will I encounter. Will I clear the valve covers?! how about baffling? I got about 100k on the motor, so if I upgraded to 1.7 rockers... will I need to upgrade my springs?
what does the swap from speed density - Mass air flow consist of? I just want my truck to have some pull and decent top end. I understand that there is plenty I can do....just don't know where to start. Or what upgrade compliments the other. I guess it all narrows down to personal preference... but I come to you guys for the years of wisdom Thank you! |

Here is who im going to be going w/ for my Mass Air Conversion kit. Im sure others could enlighten you on how to do it cheaper but i don't feel like hunting down a ECU and digging out old existing wiring from a donor car or truck. Mass Air Conversion Kits « Dunne-Rite Performance
Here is another company i have been looking into going w/ also for the Mass air kit. Alil pricey but they have alot more options for you to choose from. Interactive Systems & Technologies Mass Air Home Page Good luck on your quest for more powa :-fire Mario |
Conanski,
I bought this truck from my brother in law, and he bought it from his coworker who is a Ford Junkie. Builds all his own vehicles and swaps motors out. In the 2yrs my bro in law owned it ( for towing boat ) he only used it 3 times. So I borrowed it once to go camping...and I could not believe how strong this truck ran! its pretty quick and pulls pretty hard. Mind you... this is coming from someone has owned nothing but Hondas and currently has a Jetta daily driver. Hence "Domestic_Nuwbee" I'm new to the v8 feild, so it all feels powerful. First time I drove it, fell in love. So I bought it off of my brother believing the potential it has. So i asked my bro to ask his coworker what they actual power plant of this truck was....ask him today actually. He said 5.0 Cobra... |
