i anm gonna weld the steel drums for the proscessor any advice on what welding machine i should get i wanna weld the drums but i also want the welder to be able to weld like a car frame so it needs to able to do diffrent things
:-innocent |
A mig set up will do all of that and is relatively easy to learn. Get one with the gas shielding capability. You can weld thin material better with a gas shield as opposed to the flux core wire.
Oxy-Acetalene can also do both plus, you can braze with it. Helpful in making leak free joints when attaching plumbing fittings to the processor drum. Not as easy to learn as mig welding though. |
i have done a lot of work over the decades with a Lincoln 225 AC unit . not the best but they can be had used for 100-150 bucks .
6011 , 6010 , 6013 , 7014 , rods work well !! |
If you are welding drums and want to do actual frame work, a MIG over 200 amps (either Lincoln or Miller) would do the job.
Practice for many, many hours before welding anything on which life depends, and visit welding forums like weldingweb, the Hobart forums, and the millerwelds forum. I like stick welding, but would get a stick machine with DC capability so I could run a much greater variety of rods. The AC225 Lincoln has a brother that does DC too, or get a used Lincoln Idealarc 250/Miller Dialarc 250 (large, heavy, very nice, last forever). |
