54 on 56 f100

so i have a 56 f100 with tons of rust, but i found an add for a 54 f100 just the frame cab anf front fenders but i have to replace the fenders anyway, and the ad is only 500 dollars, so i was wondering if the cab and front clip from a 54 would fit a 56 truck????

they will fit, but the 53-55 cabs are different shape then the 56.

the slant cab (windshield post slants back on the 53-55) and the vertical post cab on the 56..

so, you could do it, but then you wouldn't have a 56.. (generally more desired)

Where's the rust on your 56? May be able to use the 55 for patch panels.. depending on the areas.

well im getting a patch for the left rear cab corner which i know i cant use a 54 patch for it, but the floor pans are shot , so i might wanna use those, and the cab supports are shot, but the fenders are kinda bat just like they have rust in area that i would have to make my own curved patches and im not to good at that so i i just wanna use the fenders.

rear cab corners are the same 53-56.. fronts are different 53-55, and 56.
floors I think are the same. fenders are the same.

There are a lot of variables...unless the 54 cab is ready to paint and install then you are probably better off fixing the 56 cab. If the 56 cab has a good roof...that is, no rotted drip rails...then the other repairs are usually worth the time and $$$ to make. Floors, cab corners, and rockers are pretty much standard replacements when it comes to cab repairs...if that's all you need then it would probably be better to use you $500 to buy replacement panels as opposed to a slant cab. I am not a big fan of using panels off another truck for repairs...too many aftermarket panels available that are in new condition and ready to install.
Here's a picture of my 56 cab when I was replacing the floors/rocker...if this looks too scary for you then maybe you should take another course of action.

I think he said the cab brow skin was rusted thru.. typical of 56s..

You must be carrying on a private conversation with him Sam, I don't see any mention of rust in the roof in his posts.
BTW - I am going to be back your way on Friday, I am signed up for a workshop with Gene Winfield at Mercury Charlie's in Austin over the weekend. I've had a 50 Merc coupe on the backburner for a couple of years now and the wife is getting antsy to get it finished so I thought that I'd get a refresher course on Merc top chopping from the master! Charlie is having a little get together Saturday night at his shop; BBQ, live music, and about 100 hotrods...come on down if you have the time.
