WAG, is it possible you use the type with the arms that grab behind whatever you are pulling? That makes no sense for a harmonic balancer, but it wouldn't be the first time something didn't make sense.

Like this one, and note it says in applications: "...Ford 1995 and later V8...."

OTC 6667 Harmonic Balancer Puller

Yea, that would make it pull off to one side.

Could you put a piece of metal behind it to pull on so the puller was even?

Not a lot of room to fool with it down there I know.

Maybe you'll get a better idea from another post.

Is that what yours looks like, with that tone ring sprocket looking deal? You may have to dig for those holes.....

kingford72 09-18-2010 06:03 PM

that exactly what mine looks like what I need are the 3 holes in the front view

kingford72 09-19-2010 08:43 PM

got the balancer off, dried grease covered the holes and couldn't see them, poked around with a pick and it pushed right through. Can't believe how much stuff builds up inside the bottom pulley over the years.

Especially with oil leaks and never being cleaned. A pressure washer would probably have come in handy before starting that job.
