Radiator drain valve

Having some issues with mine.

I apparently over-tightened it one year and it came out in my hand.
The only thing holding that in the rad is plastic tabs??

Bought and installed a new one, as the old one had bent tabs.

Now having issues with the new one. I noticed the valve was weeping, so I tightened it a quarter turn or so.

The &^$&^%#$^%!! thing blew off in my hand showering me up the to the elbow with hot antifreeze.

Now stop laughing and tell me how to fix it. LOL

I put it back in, but now I don't trust it to not blow off on the road.

Any suggestions?

put a bead of this around the head shoulder of plug and tighten in snug but no wrench. finger tight only
let set overnight and fill

in Canada temps, you could run a lower pressure radiator cap also unless you tow.

Sounds like you might have cracked the radiator where it goes screws in. I'd say a new radiator is the only fix I'd trust further that short trips to town and I'd probably have a couple gallons of water and another plug handy.
