What kind of gas tank are you using under your bed?
I am going to move my gas tank to under my bed on my 51 F1. Which tank is the easiest to install? Any pics?

Is there a benefit to moving the tank under the bed?

Hi Phil
Alot of folks like to move it out there as they feel it's dangerous in a collision to having it in the cab. There are some Mustang tanks people are putting in out there, and lots of threads on the subject. But since you don't have 25 posts yet, you can't use the search function. So, I'll see if I can find a couple and post the links here: Installing a Mid-60's Mustang Gas Tank In A 1953 F-100 .: Articles https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...nk-in-cab.html https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-with-efi.html https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...questions.html https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...-question.html https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...-gas-tank.html There's tons more - I'll let you start with those! Have fun!!! |
Got with a poly, alum, or a stainless tank. Trust me you will come out cheaper in the end. If you do go with the mustang tank (which is cheaper and easy to do) you better make sure you seal that bad boy up because rust will rear its ugly head, it will.

had a fuel cell in the bed put now have moved to a tank between the frame. measured the room and ordered on from tanks inc online. good prices imho TANKS Inc. gas tanks for street rods and custom cars and trucks

Same with me. I got a Tanks inc tank and mounted it between the frame below the bed. I fabbed my own mount for it. You'll need to move the small crossmember from the frame and move it to the end of the frame to make room. The tricky part is figuring where the filler tube will end up. You want it flush to the bed wood or just below it

I purchased a mustang tank for my '54, it fits right between the rear frame rails...very little fab work in constructing a frame...you can seal the interior with POR-15 sealer...

I used a 25-gallon tank from a 78 Bronco because I didn't want to fill thru the bed floor. My tank fills thru the driver rear fender.

Ditto on the Tanks Inc. tank, here's mine in mock-up.

Nice thread for anyone at this stage of the build!

I looked at a couple of different tanks but I didn't want to move the rear cross-member.
I went with the Mid-Fifty aluminum tank that mounts to the cross-members not the frame. I fits between the frame and cross-members so nothing to move or cut. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...b013b20314.jpg I installed a side fill tank with a flip cap on the fender. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.for...df47f0b34e.jpg |
