HID Light Problems
My 91 Explorer came with a HID light conversion. After about 15 min of being on they go through a "cycle"(on/off,on/off,on/off,on,off about 5 sec, on,). On high beam the just go off 5 sec, on 5 sec. This makes it a bit of a challenge to drive at night. I noticed the switch is clicking when this happens. Bad switch? Too much draw from the Hids? Anybody else have this problem? Thank for the help

Your 1991 would not have a CAN-bus OBD-II system, so this is not probably the full source of the issue, but may still offer some insight in to the issue. You might read this post from a different forum then see if your system uses a relay.

I put in a different switch and that seems to have fixed the problem. I had the lights on for 30 min and they didn't do the on/off thing.

Did you happen to notice any signs of heat or melting at the connector of the old switch?

This harness is out of a different Explorer, as I converted the current one from a/t to a 5 speed. There is some heat damage to the plug, but it was already there when I changed the harness. I should mention that there are several sets of lights on this rig(1 pr KC,1 pr driving,1 pr backup) and only the KCs are hooked up. I'm still trying to trace the wiring for the other sets.

Eeek! Yeah, I hope whomever wired them in used relays.

I'm not saying they did, I'm not saying they didn't. I'm still sorting through all the "aftermarket" wiring. At least someone put in a fuse panel for the extra lights.
