2000 f150 5.4 Power Steering Pressure Hose
 

2000 Ford F 150 Super Cab 5.4 L engine

My High Pressure Hose fitting on the Power Steering Pump shows signs of a "slight" leak. I am picking up the hose today. After reading some horror stories here and elsewhere I am asking myself; Should I replace the hose or wait for more signs of a failure. How difficult is the hose to replace? Any instructions? Pictures? Special advice? Special Tools?

I got an old 18mm wrench and bent the open end over to a 90. Made it alot easier

I cannot get the 18mm nut off with the old hose connected and in tact. My thought is cut the steel line and use a socket to remove. The new hose is a 16mm fitting.

I got an old 18mm wrench and bent the open end over to a 90. then put a crescent wrench on the 18mm and took it off. Works all the time for me. You could cut it and use the socket to remove, but you still have to tighten the old line. If your new hose has a 16mm nut you might want to have another ride to the parts store because that dont sound right. I have never had that with the hoses I have replaced

Hose is replaced. You are correct the new hose is an 18mm also. Very tight job, took every bit of 2 hours to get off and 30 minutes to get new one on. I worked from the wheel well to loosen fitting on the gear then went below with a short 5/8 wrench and little by little got the fitting off. I then cut the steel line and forced a 11/16 deep 12pt socket on and the pump fitting came right off. A little un orthodox but it worked.

Getting the fitting started on the gear was tough, took 10 tries at least but it finally went. Thanks for the help.

Oh, I also found what was causing the leak. The white plastic washer was broke on the old fitting.

I cut mine too. Used a hack-saw blade. Pretty quick here. I'd advise using a turkey baster to get most of the fluid out of the tank first. The new one was 11/16, used a crows foot to tighten it up. OE size was 18mm.
