Transmission drain plug issue
I have a 2003 F350 crew cab with auto transmission. While i was changing the oil yesterday i noticed a SMALL drip on the transmission pan. I tightened all the outside pan bolts just a hair and then went to the drain plug. The plug just spins left and right. My first thought its stripped. there is not a leak around the drain plug so i'm not too worried. Anyone have recommendations if there is a special tool to remove this bolt\plug? My guess its a special magnet plug and the last 2-3 rings are stripped and i just need to get it started and it will catch, but, not sure.
Do i have to replace the whole pan? :( Thanks for any help |
Welcome to FTE neverworry. A welding shop can repair the pan if the threads are toast.

the fix would be to remove the pan and weld a nut to the inside or replace it.

If I had that problem I would probably just get an 08 pan and upgrade the internal tranny filter. A good excuse esp. if you have a wife that asks too many ?'s:-X10

I got one of those wifes...Keeps askin whats in all the boxes we're getting from UPS?? Anyway, whats the difference in pans 05 to 08? |
The 08 has an int. filter that actually does something besides stopping trees and boulders. You need the new pan because of the depth of the upgraded filter.

Thanks for the info 69cj
