Replacing Rear Wheel Bearings - Broke Oil Slinger
Well,
I decided to replace my rear wheel bearings today. Everything was going alright until I broke my oil slinger (the part that goes between the inner bearing and the hub seal - Part# F81Z4670AA). The Ford dealer is closed, and I won't be able to get a new one until Monday after work. Is there really a need for this little metal washer with bent over tabs? I read somewhere that this "Slinger" is to help keep the oil away from the seal, but I don't know. I guess, what I am trying to do, is talk myself out of waiting and buying the Slinger, and just slap this thing back together tonight! What do you think? Thanks, Greg |
If they didn't need it Ford wouldn't have put them in, the bean counters would have cut that corner already. :-X10 I'd wait and put it back original

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. The original one looks like it has a little wear on it, so I figured that it was doing something!
Thanks for not letting me cut corners ;) Hopefully they will have one in stock on Monday. |
