How to replace a broken tailgate latch?

My tailgate latch is broken and i need to know how to take it out and put the new one in. Any help is appreciated.

Just remove the access plate on the inside of the gate, It's 8 or10 torque head screws. Two nuts hold the handle, when done greese everything up, spray some ATF at the latch sites...good luck

Its not the handle. It's the actual latch that holds the tailgate up.

Look inside the rear stake hole, you can get one half of her there, and the other would be through the access plate...they are kind of bullet proof, you may be able to loosen it up again

The handle latch is attached to the side latch that I am trying to remove.

So once I unscrew the rod from the handle latch and pull it out, how do I get the side latch out of the component on the side?

Not sure, but I would guess that there are two nuts to remove
