"X" color code on 1955 Ford truck
 

My 1955 1/2 Ton also has a color code "X". Overspray on the cab interior under the headliner indicates that the original color was a darker blue. Any info would be helpful.

First of all, welcome to the group. Glad to have you. In the future I'd suggest posting over on the 48-60 forum. You'll find a lot of guys there with '55s.

Looking at the Ford Chassis Manual for 1955, there is no color code "X" listed. The blue colors listed are Banner Blue, code "B", Aquatone Blue, code "C", and Waterfall Blue, code "D". I'm not good knowing what the "mid year' colors look like, but if yours is a dark blue I'd bet the Banner Blue would be it. On the earlier trucks there was also a Sheridan Blue color that was real dark. It was used from '48 to '54 that I know of and was generally coded as "B". When I first read your question I thought that your truck might have been a specially painted color, like a fleet color or something like that, but the code for these was "SS". So I leave you with no good answer, unfortunately. If you want to match your original color you might need to take a piece with overspray to a paint shop to have it matched. Stu

If you special ordered a truck, and you ordered it with a special color as Stu mentioned it would normally be listed with an "SS"

BUT, if you ordered it with a Ford Car color of the same years paint colors, Ford would use the correct Car color code on your truck Rating Plate.

"X" was the 1955 Ford Car Color Code for "Regatta Blue."
