It's a U81
I just had him e-mail me the Warranty plate picture and it is a U81. Looks like genuine Ranger package most likely.

Where is the proof it's a Camper Special and/or a Ranger? BODY code stamped on the Warranty Plate would ID it as a Ranger, but seller failed to post a pic of it.
There is no code within the VIN or stamped on the Warranty Plate that ID's a Camper Special, regardless of what year it is. There is only one way to tell if it is...or isn't. Edit: BODY code U81: Parchment Crinkle Vinyl & Black Rosette Pattern Vinyl (Bucket Seats) / 81 = 81B Custom Cab with Ranger Package. |
You decide.

Looks like someone tried to pry it off at one point. Who knows if anything is genuine anymore?

No COLOR code stamped on Warranty Plate: Truck was painted a non standard color per the original purchasers order, making it a Domestic Special Order.
DSO 713255: 71 = Los Angeles (SoCal) Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from. 3255: Domestic Special Order number. |
I sure hope this truck goes to the right person, someone who will restore it appreciate it as a very uncommon special order factory truck. It really doesn't look that bad, mostly surface rust, faded paint, and of course wrong mirrors and wheels. Would hate to see this Ranger used a dump runner. I believe if it was ordered with both Ranger and Camper Special packages, the side emblem would be Camper Special.

[quote=tripleframe;13386280] '64 was the first year for bucket seats, console and carpet as a special order option. This package was not called "Ranger" at this point and there was no ranger emblem. It was a "DSO" item,( special order) and the special order numbers would be after the District code on Data Plate. As some of you already know, I will hunt down the evidence to further back up what I say. Sales literature shows 2 trucks, study the seats in them. This is typical pre '66 when most all advertising was done with artists renditions( drawings-paintings in ads). Blue truck has custom cab bench seat, beige truck has bucket seats.http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/...ps286bb3e4.jpg

Bill, correct me on this but I believe the Camper Special would have a factory harness pigtail that is part of the factory harness, to plug into the camper. It is located, WELL, I won't say. If its a CS, then you would know. I guess you could 'fake' it but someone that 'knows' should be able to see through a fake splice in... :-X04 Should I say where it is...? :-roll

'64 Bucket Trux
With the demise of DS Offices in '86 I think proof positive will be a tough nut on special order equip on the '64.

C5TZ-14405-T .. 1965/66 F100/250 2WD Camper Special Taillamp Harness, has extra feed wire for C/S wiring harness to plug into. C2TZ-14405-BZ .. Taillamp Harness: 1961/64 F100/250; 1965/66 F100/250 except Camper Special. |
Checked another '66 source, and the wiring harness is listed as part of the package. However it was not listed in the '65 brochure I had. Probably a simple typo error or omission in literature. So, ND is correct, Camper Specials did come with this item in '65 and '66.

The Camper Special option alone may not be very rare on a '65 or a '66, but I would say it was very very rare on a '64. THe option came out late in the '64 model year and there is almost no literature available on it. Rare period photos with these Camper Special emblems. Emblem used on early '65 Camper Specials also.https://i1280.photobucket.com/albums...psda646df3.jpg

Even in '66 Henry :-huh was starting to group options into pkg levels. |

Here is a link to the 64 sport option mentioned in a ford brochure on how to purchase a 1964 XL F100. http://f-100xl.info/F100XL2a.jpg Garbz |
