74 ranchero engine help
How do you go about turbo charging a carborated 460?
|
Manifold set up, blow through carb, oiling set up, heat shielding, intake and filter set up, and a couple of engine rebuilds.
Is this a 460 you are building, or a many miles motor that's in the Ranchero already? You can make more power with a NA 460 than the stock chassis can handle. |
I am planning to TIG weld the 8 into 1 exsaust manifold, and run a high power oil pump with a oiling cooler and line to the turbo.
Welding and fabrication isent a problem. Finding the proper turbo and injection system is. I want to do a bi-turbo set up. Much like the ford 6.4 (I believe, could be the 6.0 I can't recall). So I will have a small turbo spoiling up fast and a larger turbo for higher rpm. For a fuel system I want to run a carborator, fuel injection is very costly and this is a budget build. As for the frame, the rear end has a 9in and trailing arms, I plan on keeping the axle and doing eather a triangulated 3 link, or a 4 link suspention. For tranny I have a C6 automatic |
For twin turbos, I don't think you want 8 into 1.
This is supercharger talk, but you'll run into some of the same issues. Other discussions there also: Supercharger build - 460 Ford Forum Your topic is turbocharging, not Ranchero, so you may want to post in this forum: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/5...r-vehicle.html |
Your right. I will still post the build on this. Anyone know where ican get quarter pannels? I can't seem to find any

D2OZ9727847A .. Left Quarter Panel / Obsolete Fits: 1972/76 Ranchero / No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any. Where is the damage (prolly caused by rust), above the wheel wells and along the bottom of the quarter panels? Find a 1972/76 Torino 2 door, then cut the quarter panels from it, then splice in the lower section of the 2 door panels to the Ranchero's quarter panels. |
Thanks man. I am considering cutting a inch or 2 out of the rear quarter pannels to eliminate rust and fit larger tires. Rust in rocker pannels shouldn't be to difficult to replace or patch.
