98 Expedition Vibration
Hi Everyone,
I have a 98 EB 4x4 AWD with 63K miles and I recently had my transmission overhauled by a company that I'd still recommend, but, we're having a problem with a vibration. They thought that it was a torque converter, replaced it, still a vibration. Any suggestions? I've been seeing mufflers, planatery(transmission component), and fuel injectors. Thanks Henry Cox |

You'll need to provide a bit more detail. Under what conditions does it occur and what kind of vibration?

98 Expedition Vibration
It's a very suttle vibration that is noticed upon idling and stopped in drive or reverse with brake on. The intensity seems to drop when placed in park or neutral. Not much noticible vibration when driving down the road. It is felt in the front seats and arm rests.

Definitely look into the exhaust system. Pay particular attention to the hanger mount on the back of the trans. These hangers aren't that great to begin with.

Thanks,
I'll look into this. Is this because the bracket is cracked or what? Is there rubber on the bracket? |

The bracket has a rubber piece but it isn't much. Try disconnecting the mount from the Y-pipe and seeing if it makes a difference. That's what I found to be the cause on my F150.

Henry, my 2000 4x4 Expedition had/has a very similar vibration. I took it to Ford and they said there was a broken exhaust hanger and supposedly replaced it (I didn't crawl under to see). However, the vibration still exists, maybe I'll get under there this weekend to see what is going on. If you find the source of your vibration, please keep us informed.

On my '98 expy my vibration problems went away as soon as I had the tranny's planatory thing balanced, followed by a drivetrain balance.
