2000mi and it Just gets better

I wondered if I would miss my 08 F250 6.4 after trading it for my 2011 250. Well I'm 50mi shy of 2K mi and she's still the truck to beat. Tomorrow I'm loading her up for a run from Tampa to New York which should put about 3K more miles on the clock. In the 2000 mi I've done already she hasn't used any noticible amount of motor oil and has been giving me about 16.5 MPG MT. I'm hoping to see a couple more mpg around town once the engine loosenes up. I don't miss my 6.4 what so ever. I even got used to the sound of the 6.7 which sounds more like a gasser then a diesel. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...s/DSCI0009.jpg

Nipper

I am feeling the same way. I really liked my 04 with the 6.0 except for the nagging engine stuff. I could not be more pleased with my new truck. It has 3350 miles on it as of today, mixed driving is at 18.5 to 19 and 75mph down the freeway for 150 miles yielded 20.5. I hand calculated the first few tankfuls and compared them to the fuel computer. It was never more than .3 difference. I can live with that. It is likely within the margin of error in my ability to accurately fuel the truck. It keeps getting a little better each mile. I would post some pics but I keep having issues with a photobucket account.

Is it quieter than your 6.4?

Nipperdog - beautiful truck, BTW. Do you notice a difference in off-the-line acceleration between having a 3.73 rear on the '08 and a 3.55 rear on the new truck?

My guess is no, since the new engine is significantly stronger in the power department. What are your thoughts?

I'd like to hear some people post up about the new 3.30 rear that is available - according to the tow ratings on Ford's website, it will perform the same as my '04 6.0 w/ a 3.73 rear. I find that incredible. The person looking for the ultimate in efficiency department and willing to sacrifice a little tow rating would probably be served well by that high gear rear.

I had 3.73 gears and a 60 hp tow tune in my 04 6.0. I have 3.55's in my new truck. It is hands down a stronger puller than the old truck. I pull a 13000# Heartland Big Horn fifth wheel. I would not be afraid of a 3.3 geared truck. The new six speed trans is awesome. I believe Ford did their homework and testing before they rated the truck for towing.

Great looking truck. All good info.....

I wanted a 3.70 axle as this is my first auto-trans in 20 years. It's reassuring to know, from my interpitation, that the 3.55 is delivering responsive power coupled with good fuel economy. I just sold my street legal tractor(99 dodge cummins) due to the noise and refinement. At 75mph with 2000# trailer produced 19 mpg. However, that was with a 70hp chip, 4" pipe, HX40 turbo and RV(1 stage injectors). My point, happy to hear of the great inovations that Ford has produced and looking forward to being First On Race Day!:-newbie

So I got my 2011 F350, 6.7 PSD on Sunday. One of the things I'm really happy with and amazed is how it will almost pin me to the back of the seat if I step on it. My 2003 GMC Yukon XL 2500 with 6.0L gas couldn't do that. Over half of the miles on the 350 are highway since they had to get it from another dealership but the mpg reads at least a 50% increase from the Yukon and I know it will get better.

I am not exaggerating when I say the new truck with 3.55 gearing would easily walk away from my old truck pulling the same trailer. I have pulled my Big Horn over 1500 miles so far and the biggest problem is too much speed. I have to set the cruise at 68mph. If I foot feed the beast, it wants to go 80mph. I ran it through the rolling hills of Iowa and Northern Michigan. It hardly knows it is not running on level ground. I am almost wishing I had the 3.30 gearing. Truck is consistently running 18to 19 mixed city/highway and I have seen 20.5 running 75mph down the Interstate for 150 miles empty.

I believe that it out accelerates the 6.4 3.73 and does so with no turbo lag. This truck's performance is unbelievable

Wow, that's funny! Can I use that?

I have a 3.73 '08 6.4 and it honestly struggles a bit to get going if you have a load and need to stop and start on an uphill grade. I have the same concern with the new 6.7 and the 3.55 because I am close to making a decision to buy. Nice to see threads popping up with you guys sharing your info!

dam that truck sounds impressive indeed..

Until you tow with this new 6.7 Ford engine you will not understand how bad to the bone this beast is. As I have said before, I had a very good 60 hp heavy tow tune on my 6.0. There is no comparison. From idle until you let off at 80 mph, towing 13000 pounds, it just rocks. I have the 3.55's but would not worry if I had the 3.30 now that I see how hard it pulls. My truck is rated at 23500 GCVW and 3720 payload.
