Regen Question

I decided to take my truck for a 300 mile break end drive today and I love this truck. Mpg was 19.5 at speeds of 55 to 65. The only thing I noticed was a message about regen but it was so fast I can't fiqure out what it said. My 6.4 regen would stay lit until end of regen, how does the 6.7 work?
Thanks for any input

people got upset at how long the message displayed, and they couldn't see their trip, odometer, etc.. so Ford changed it jst to blip the message.. latest flash for the 6.4s does the same..
(I like the longer message, but have had to clear it a couple times.. don't know what that does 'cancel to clear'...
anyhow.. its still regening even tho the message is not being displayed..

How are you to know when the regen has completed a cycle if it just does a quick flash. I thought ford wanted you to run a full regen? I guess I will read the manual again.

What is a regen anyway?

Wow, no offense! You are about 4 years behind technology.

the 6.4 and up trucks have a filter on the exhaust to catch all the smoke... (diesel particulate filter, aka DPF).. when the filter fills up, the system goes into regeneration (regen), to burn off the accumulated carbon particles..

It does this by injecting raw fuel on the exhaust stroke, which flows into the DPF where it causes a fire hot enough to burn off the carbon, and exhaust it as ash..

while that is happening, SOME fuel will get buy the piston rings and end up with the engine oil.. (aka making oil)..

usually more at slower speeds..

course this fuel is NOT used for moving, and thus it cuts down your miles per gallon..

this is done approx every 100 or so miles.. whenever the back pressure in the DPF gets high enough to indicate being clogged.

if it doesn't finish, you may get 'Drive to complete exhaust cleaning' or some such message which would stay on longer..

otherwise no harm, no foul.. if you don't see it, then you don't worry about it.. (they think)

I have seen the regen light about every 400 miles or so. I may have missed a couple. The mileage hit shows about 2 to 3 tenths per gallon and then it climbs back up to 19 or so.

yeh, haven't seen reports on the 11's how frequent.. but the use of the Urea may help make it longer between

The one thing I know about regen is if you don't finish a cycle it will start all over again until you do. With the less time in regen you will reduce the amount of oil you make. With the 6.7 the longer time you can go until a regen is a plus, but I still want to know it has completed a cycle before I shut it down.

I thought on the 11's you could look up the status in the message area.

But ford says its no problem to turn off before it ends. Will restart as required.

Just drive normal.

Never thought of that, I will give it a shot.

I have not researched the regen cycle issue at all but I do watch the fuel computer when I see the regen message. It seems like the mileage drop of 2 to 3 tenths only lasts a few minutes and then begins to climb back up. Not a scientific evaluation but I just do not worry about it.

Just got my 2011 yesterday afternoon. They had to drive it from another dealership so it had 217 miles when I recieved it. I actually saw the regen message flash up when I was at about 230 miles.
