do we have any IDI guru's out there?

i just picked up a 92 cc dually for almost nothing. my plans are to put the powerstroke in it. but for now it has no power wich is probaly because iam used to the turbo. it has a miss all around the powerband, in idle it will go from feeling like it is about to die to wanting to pull thru the brakes. i can feel this difference when driving at different speeds. it was a 30 mi ride home. very little smoke when i mash it and i havent checked anything yet, i just got home.

The stanadyne pump is probably about to go.
I can tell you how to turn it up if you want...

The most common problem would be air getting in the fuel, somewhere,
I'm not a guru by any means, but I recently changed a motor for a guy, 89 F-250 7.3L and trouble shot the bugs out of it for almost a month.

By the way the "no power thing", get used to it!!!! you'r used to driving a modded Powerstroke!!! :-X04

I can smoke a 7.3 N/A and I'm pretty much stock, they are not fast but pull very well.

wel i expected the lack of power, but it could at least run well. anyway, ive herd about turning up pumps and would like to know how, also the pump that is on it now looks very clean compared to the rest of the engine. tomorrow iam gonna try and bleed the injector lines. oh, and the vacuum line for the map is missing, where on the manifold does it connect?

here is a look at the future powerstroke.

sounds like a weak lift pump to me.
these old girls have a problem with fuel.it's their weakest link.
pull the stock lift pump, and block it off using a BB chevy plate, and install an electric (low pressure.just 8psi max is all you want.)
this will keep her running for ya while your building the PSD.
of course check for any leaks, and make sure the fuel filter isnt clogged up.
you may like the IDI after you get her running right.the parts are pennies on the dollar compared to the stokes.
for example:
set of 8 NEW injectors costs us: under $200.:D

oooo nice ride!:-X22

any info on where the map line goes?

FORDF250HDXLT 07-10-2010 11:00 PM

there is no computer controlling these engines.
no map sensors.

chicagodragon 07-10-2010 11:04 PM

you may be right, but there is definitly a map sensor on the firewall, and some wires on the injection pump, and what looks like a TPS

chicagodragon 07-10-2010 11:19 PM

i wonder if this was a gas converstion?

FORDF250HDXLT 07-10-2010 11:22 PM

there is FSS fuel shut off solenoid on the injection pump.
and there's a TPS throttle positioning sensor, thats for the e40d's computer.-if that;s any color but light gray btw,you should change it.AZ sells the oem part surprisingly.
still trying to think of what may look like a map sensor to ya though.

chicagodragon 07-10-2010 11:29 PM

i went and looked again... 3 wires and a spot for a vacuum hose. in the same spot where the map is on my 97

here is what i belive is the map. what is this sensor in the second pic? it was loose and the wires look kinda messed up. also the third pic ... this little guy spun that from both my truck mirrors that are parked next to each other.
