Is this a special edition truck?
My dad thinks he has a special edition truck. Here is the information from the vin and the data plate:
VIN: F10HLEA7855 DATA PLATE: 117 H F106 AT4 K 13X DSO from sticker on the door jamb (the sticker that lists the tire pressures) DSO: F0140 T0596 He says the truck has some type of oak (wood) stakes or something that goes with the bed. He also says that the truck has a handwritten paint code sticker for the pinstrip that goes down the side of the truck. It is a factory sticker but the codes are handwritten. I think there are three colors for the pinstripe. Looking at the fordification website reveals the back axel has a ratio of 2.50 (racing axle?). Their is not a code from the fordification website that tells the information about the front axle. Also the "A" from the AT4 body code (data plate) is not listed on the fordification website. Additionaly the DSO from the data plate designates the district office as "recreation" instead of Los Angeles, Kansas City, Detroit, etc. We are not sure what the DSO from the sticker that states the correct tire pressures means "F0140 T0596". He thinks the truck might have been a "show" model that was taken to rodeos or race tracks. Any help is appreciated. |
Why don't you throw about a half adozen or so pictures up for us all to have a look at?

nice looking truck Tees; I have factory clearance lights on my 79 F250, but one of them came off; are yours factory and do you have any ideas on where to get one?
as for my dad's truck; I will call him and see if he can get some pics, but he isn't that technilogically inclined. we'll see. |
VIN: F10HLEA7855.
F10= F-100 Two Wheel Drive. H= 351ci V8 with a 2-Barrel Carburetor. L= Assembled at the Michigan Truck Plant. Your dad's truck was built in December of '78, as a 1979 Model. ----------------------- 117 = WheelBase - 117" WheelBase, is a 6' Bed, and a Regular Cab. H = Paint Code- '79 Color "H" is Ford "Dark Brown Metallic" F106 = Model Code - 5,300 GVWR- F-100 Two Wheel Drive. AT4 = Body Type Code - Ranger-XLT with StyleSide Pickup Box. K = Transmission Code - '79 3-Speed Automatic used in F-100 - F-350s. 13 = Rear Axle Code - '77-'79 - 2.75 Ratio, Ford Axle. X = Front Axle Code - Not Listed, Are you sure it's an X...? Your D.S.O (District Sales office, Where the dealer ordered the truck from) I can't decode yours, But, I know that, that truck is a special order. |
The X after 13 means it has adjustable steering column aka: Tilt wheel
Post what the DSO is on the tag ok? Sounds to me like the free-wheeling trim option. |
The DSO on the data plate is 86 which according to: Decoding '73-'79 Ford Truck VIN Tags - FORDification.net
means it was desiginated to "recreation" I do not know what the other DSO numbers mean (see first entry of this post) |
If it was a special order to a dealership the DSO coding would be longer as it would contain the work order characters (numbers/letters)
The 86 means Recreation Division where it would be outfitted with recreational type options such as the stakes. Being in Kansas I suspect it is Ranch Style Truck. These DSO: F0140 T0596 are NOT DSO codes. |
If it had stakes with it, then it was the ranch option truck.
|
yes, it has stakes made out of oak.
|
I wanna see some pics of this mochine???!!!
|
Okay it was the ranch option truck, I forget which package it was but the bed had a tool box built into the bed.

These DSO: F0140 T0596 are NOT DSO codes. |
