What is 2nd best to Motorcraft parts?

89 F250, 7.5L.......Having problems getting it started. Cranks like a champ but just won't turn over. My next step is replacing the distributor cap and rotor. This truck gets driven less than 500 miles during the year. Pretty much summer months only. Motorcraft parts seem so expensive compared to a few of the other brands. Is there a 2nd or 3rd best than I can use that would fit our driving habits for this truck? I thought I read somewhere that Autolite makes Motorcraft.

darthice 07-07-2010 01:44 PM

Autolite is a good brand I use alot of house brands like bwd and such from oriellys.

I also go with Oriellys house brand quite a bit and have yet to be disappointed. Also it depends on what parts you are talking about... some brands are better than others depending on the part.

darthice 07-07-2010 02:07 PM

exactly and it also depends on the purpose if you are going for performance the house brands will not suffice but for most drivers the house brand will do fine.

if you specify what exactly part wise you are comparing motocraft parts to, then we can better help you.

Also, if you check out ACDelco and Motorcraft Auto Parts OE Parts Headquarters -, you can get Motorcraft parts at A LOT cheaper prices, and they are all genuine.....saved me a TON of money when I did me tune up/replaced random parts...

Parts sold at NAPA are very high Quality, and very reasonable too, NAPA sponsors some of the NASCAR teams too.

NAPA Sponsorships

In 2010, NAPA will continue its long tradition of primary sponsorship in NASCAR, sponsoring Michael Waltrip Racing and the #56 Toyota Camry driven by Martin Truex, Jr. NAPA shares Toyota's enthusiasm for motorsports, and through its sponsorship support, looks for an exciting 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Season. NAPA remains a dominant player

Borg Warner BWD is good too.

Uhm...cranking = "turning over"

So...I believe what you're trying to say is:

"My truck cranks, but refuses to FIRE."

Is that correct?

erica 07-08-2010 11:12 AM

Yea, meant to say "fire". At this point I am looking to replace the distributor cap and rotor. I've tested the spark plug wires and they are within the specified range.

95F350XL 07-08-2010 05:34 PM

Do you have fuel and spark?

erica 07-08-2010 06:19 PM

Yes, I have tested for fuel. Not sure how to test for spark.

quicklook2 07-08-2010 07:26 PM

will it start with starting fluid?

if yes, and then stalls, fuel pump problem.

if no then no spark.

remove coil wire from dist. and ground it out and then crank, do you have spark there?

if you do then remove a plug wire and see if you have spark ther, remember to reconnect coil wire.

I've never been disappointed w/ NAPA. W/ prices either. Great source for RABS valves.

+1 It depends a lot on what kind of parts you are buying too.
