Do you guy's trust this filter???

[POF-5515]Prime Guard oil filter-2003-08 Ford 6.0 and 6.4 Liter diesel oil filters(FL2016)

Anyone using it, it sure is a hell of alot cheaper than motorcraft or even racor!

rollerstud98 07-06-2010 08:48 PM

For the cost of it, buy it then check it to see if it has the correct patent numbers on it, if not then I would just toss it.

sammy77 07-06-2010 08:58 PM

I don't care what it costs not worth the time if something goes wrong....

SteveBricks 07-06-2010 09:31 PM

"Prime Guard filters are made by a ISO/QS/TS16949 Certified Manufacturer"

It doesn't say they're made by Racor, so I'd pass.

Frankenbiker 07-06-2010 10:50 PM

"Made in China"

'nuff said.

Do you guy's trust this filter???

Country Of Origin: China ******** HELL-o NO :)

BPofMD 07-07-2010 10:23 AM

Who ya gonna sue????? Yeah, China!!! Not worth the difference in price....

cubalz 07-07-2010 10:24 AM

Buy Racor filters from www.dieselfiltersonline.com period. It will be right filter at the right price. Never skimp on filters for your diesel powered baby.

Cowboy65 07-07-2010 12:05 PM

Let's do the math --
  1. I don't know what the cost of a rebuilt engine would be but I'll guess around $7,000.
  2. Total cost of Racor oil filters for the lifetime of the engine - $558
  3. Total cost of Prime Guard filters for the lifetime of the engine - $230
  4. Total savings by risking Prime Guard over Racor - $328
#1 (engine value) >>>>>>>> #4 (savings) therefore I'll stick with Racor.

Calculations based on current pricing for Racor ($13.95) & Prime Guard ($5.75) filters via DieselFiltersOnline and assumptions 200K total miles & oil change interval 5K miles.

The repackaged Racors in the Fram box at Wal-Mart are just under $18. I have never seen one that was not an original Racor. YMMV

SONNYY13N 07-07-2010 03:03 PM

Fram filters at my local Walmart are $17.44 plus tax. Motorcraft filters are $18.44 plus tax. Identical in every respect INCLUDING PATENT NUMBERS. Just my $.02

Racor makes the Framm and Motorcraft filters... that is why they are the "same" filters...down to the patent numbers.

For the opening poster... if your worried about money and saving a few bucks, then you should not be driving a diesel truck.

Only use Racor made fuel and oil filters (Racor made the housings that these filters fit into and are patented)... so "will-fit" filters are NOT as good... becuase if they "fit" the way they should, they would be infringing on the Racor patent.

So.. the choice is yours and I think enough people have spoken... do not skimp on oil and fuel filters.... even if made in the USA... only use Racor filters or re-branded Racor made filters.

BTW, Racor oil filters were made in Germany before they started making them in the US... so there could always be an "odd-ball" left-over Racor made filter still stamped with "Germany" on it around.

Watch the You Tube link below for the complete story and why you only use Racor made filters.

It's obvious most people know what type of filter to use in the 6.0 which speaks to how effective the word gets out here.

Good to see Beach sharing his wisdom on the 6.0!

Hi guys.. have been around, but just don't post much.

Same questions and same "issues" about which mods and why Ford doesn't warrenty my truck after I mod it.

As well, I have anew hobby... guns..... I now hang out on several handgunconceal carry forums... and carry a Springfield XDM-40.

By the way, I now have 175,000 miles on my 2003 Excursion 6.0L PSD.

All I have had to replace (s0 far) are:
1) Upper & lower ball joints
2) HFCM pump/filter
3) Tranny temp sensor
4) Alternators (2 of them)
5) Air filter minder sensor

Still have original EGR valve, turbo and C94 injectors!!!!

Look out 200,000 miles.... here I come.
