After reading all the postings here and elsewhere on the web I guess that only the experts here can decode this VIN.

I'm buying a 1977 Ford Armored Truck VIN "D0532GHB22243" which stumps me. Dunno what the door plate says but received a photo confirming this VIN from a lable somewhere.

Thanks in advance, looking to build the ultimate Zombie Apocalypse vehicle...

I've never seen a VIN like this on any Ford truck....and it makes no sense. 1957/80 Ford trucks have an 11 digit VIN as do 1961/80 Econolines & 1966/80 Bronco's.

The armored trucks from this era that I'm familiar with...were either F350/750 Cab & Chassis or E350 Cut-Away's.

None of these came with "back of cab" equipment. The aftermarket bodies were installed behind the cabs on their bare frame rails.

1963/79 trucks have a Warranty Plate located on the left door face below the latch with the VIN and other codes stamped on it.

1970/79 trucks have a Safety Standard Certification Label glued to the B pillar below the striker plate.

The production date is printed on the upper left hand corner, the VIN and GVWR's are also printed on this label...and that's about it.

But, these trucks were not titled or registered by these VIN's, as they were too EZ to change. Trucks were registered by the hidden VIN stamped on the frame rail.

So, what this armored truck could be...is a rolling chassis from another make of truck with the 1977 Ford body mounted to it. This occurred somewhat frequently with commercial vehicles.

Examples of the 1973/79 Warranty Plate (left) & the 1973/77 Certification Label (right) from the 1973/79 Ford Heavy Truck Parts Catalog:

I have one. I am purchasing a 1958 F600, but want to know more about its history.
The VIN is F60C8K32223. The date is 11C. Axle is 53 and the color is S. I have figured some of it out but other things such as the color elude me. Any help would be great.

Thank you sir. Does that VIN tell a guy about the original transmission?
I appreciate your legwork and will post pics of this beast when I figure out how. The special color makes sense as you can see this "yellow" paperweight coming for miles. :-X22

No TRANS code is within the VIN of any FoMoCo vehicle. Listed separately on the Rating/Warranty Plate.

Roger that. Thanks.
