New guy question
I tried looking around before asking but it just made me more confused so I'll just tell you my problem. I bought a 75 F100 4x4 last year and have slowly been working on it. The VIN is F10GRV60117. Now from what I have read in this forum is that this truck is a 2 wheel drive (F10), however it is a 4x4.:confused: The Dana 44 front axle does not look to have been added but looks original to the truck. I was thinking, could the previous owner have swapped doors, since that is where the VIN plate is?:-huh I've looked for the frame VIN but haven't located it yet.:-X18 Any help would be much appreciated!

G = 302 2V (excepting 1969/77 Bronco's, 302 not available with 4WD until 1980). R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant. V60117 = 1975. Compare the VIN stamped on the Warranty Plate to the VIN on the registration/title to see if they match. People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plates on the replaced doors. Doors same: 1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco. |

N70 = LN700 (gas) / E = 361 2V or 4V / V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant / B12528 = 1976. W.B. 202 COLOR JT: J = Rangoon Red / T = Candyapple Red TYPE/GVW: N702 = LN700 (gas), 23,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. BODY 8A8: TRANS: M = Clark model 285V 5 Speed Direct. AXLE 54M: 54 = Rockwell/Timken Single Speed Rear Axle / 6.83-1 / 17,500 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity // M = Ford 7,000 lbs. capacity front axle with P/S. GVWR = 23,000 lbs. It's a 1976 LN700 w/361 2V 5 spd and 2 spd :-huh axle This has to be a 1976, as TYPE/GVW was not used on N700's, MODEL code was used instead. |

VIN 1FDNF80C4WVA17033 / Type GVW F80260 :-huh / Body 8 :-huh / Trans AA / RC 48 :-huh IFD = FoMoCo USA - Ford Truck - Incomplete Vehicle (Cab & Chassis). N = Class 6 Hydraulic Brakes, 19,501-26,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. F80 = F800 Diesel Cab & Chassis. C = Cummins 5.9L (359 cid) 6 Cylinder Diesel. 4 = Check digit, FoMoCo use only. W = 1998. V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant. A17033 = 1998 Numerical Sequence of Assembly. Most of the following codes are incomplete and/or were copied down incorrectly. Type/GVW: F80260 = 60 doesn't belong, should just be F802, but F802 is not listed in the parts catalog. BODY: 8 = You're missing at least one digit. AA = Allison model AT-545 Automatic Transmission. RC 48 = I have no idea what RC refers to, nothing like this is listed in the catalog. |
Thanks for the help Bill. I believe the last 3 digits of the F80260 are the GVW. I saw another 30,000 gvw and its tag said F80300
