That motor was probably originally Ford Blue (depending on what year it is of course). Here's a pic - 390 FE:

Here is my 351W. Yellow and Black, same color as the truck will be.
I replaced the oil pan with a front sump pan since this pic was taken.

After cleaning off the grease and dirt I found out my 223 is painted red. Will most likely repaint it the same color.

My 302

Its a mid to late 70's 302 rebuilt by Napa - I will upgrade the motor once the warrenty expires on the rebuild. It was painted black when I got it. My research tells me the it was a shade of Ford blue when it was new.

Mine will be the dark Ford blue. The 351W in my Bronco was factory gray but is now Ford blue.

thanks for the replys looks like most every one is sticking to ford colors or matching truck color. thinking truck will be copper. got a nice buy from local parts dealer arnolds ordered headers a cheep set to see if they would fit 100.00 opened box i received heavy set of chrome headers now have to up grade valve covers. by the way the intake is dirty with age how do you clean-up the rough casting with out removing
rod

I didn't catch the oil pan thread, but I hope you got a 351W pan, and not a 302 pan. they are completely different from each other.

yes i had to call their tec line to find. the correct pan summit was the only one to come up with part number it looks correct. will find out as soon as i can con one of my boys to put it on. cant use right arm till fixed

Dare to be different - paint it pink!

As Havi mentioned, the 289/302 pan is different from the 351w pan. They are the same dimentially, with the same rail shape and bolt pattern so they can be difficult to tell apart if one isn't careful, but the opening at the rear where it goes around the rear main cap is larger on the 351 pan. They will not interchange.

If the truck is going to be copper, a red engine would set it off and work well. I would heat up a piece of copper till it starts to glow then dunk it in water. You'll get several colors with heating it, but you can get a sort of deep brick red from it and that shade I think would tie it all together... if you're painting the truck copper color.

Mine is black with "chrome" powder coating and polished aluminum.
