94 F150 / towing
 

I normally tow with my F350 but it's got well over a 1/4 million miles on it and has not been reliable as of late, so I took my f150 with the 5.0L NP435 the last time and wow was I disapointed. I tow around 7500# and the powerstoke didnt even know it was there where the 5.0L would loose 25MPH on the big hills. So I'm debating on what to do. Do I put money in the truck, or swap in my low milage 351. Will the 302 EFI run the 351? Or do I get a newer truck with more power. I really like the body style I have as I have 2 of them, so I'd like to make this truck work. What would you do?

Buy another F-250 or F-350. No F-150 our year is even rated for that much weight. You are a danger towing that much weight with F-150 suspension and brakes.

F150 isn't built to haul that kind of weight. Go find another 7.3 PSD(the best Ford diesel to date) with lower milage and swap the motor into your truck unless the donor happens to be in better shape.

Hate to be a repeater, but you have got to be crazy to be towing that much weight behind an F-150. You are way, way over what that vehicle is designed to be able to tow.

What is the max you can tow with the OBS F150? I know the new ones can handle it, so maybe it's time for a newer truck.

Where are you getting that from?

It depends on engine, transmission, and gear ratio mostly.

With a 351, 3.55 gears, and an E4OD they are rated to tow a lot more than 2000 lbs.

This is what I found.
Max tow 3.08=4300lbs, 3.31=4800lbs, 3.55=5300lbs
