Remote Start for 2009 F150
 

Searched the threads but did not find any details. Has anyone added remote start by themselves? What is the part numbers? Costs? Does the dealer have to get involved for any programming?

I too am interested in this. I have an on-order F150, and I would like to have the factory remote start + alarm system installed (the gold version).

I've read the install manual from Ford. Doesn't seem too difficult, but there are half dozen splices that need to be done do existing wiring (why doesn't Ford make this a 100% plugin?). Look's like a full day's job to do everything properly (soldered joints, properly routed wires).

One potential issue is that the manual states you should have the vehicle wiring diagram for reference. I don't have access to this.

It would save about 400 $CDN.

There is no dealer re-programming required, other than configuring the remote start + alarm system with the keyfob/horn.

I have done about 3 myself in the past on older trucks, but I did not do my 09 F150. It would take me all day. Luckily I found a local installer who came to my house and he installed my 6-button Ford rmst with alarm system in only an hour for just $80 cash install fee.

Here are the 3 different Ford systems offered with the part numbers and a picture of the remote fob that comes with it (NOTE: These are 2009 part numbers only, the part numbers changed for the 2010 systems because of the new My-Key feature).

For the first two remote start systems, you would have to carry your factory keyless entry fob with you too. I think the first one is the one you get as the factory invoiced accessory remote start system if you order your truck with it. The second one is actually a 2-way type system, the button flashes green and the keyfob beeps to confirm that the truck started. The third system includes the alarm, and it replaces your factory keyless fob since the new fob does control keyless entry and remote start all in one fob. The extra 1 and 2 buttons on the fob are pretty much useless for our trucks. You could turn the alarm feature off if you want (if you don't like alarms), but at least then you would still have everything all in one key fob rather than having to carry 2 fobs around.

The 3 systems cost between $200 and $230 plus shipping through an online discount Ford parts dealer. Sometimes you can find them slightly cheaper on Ebay. I lucked out and I think I bought my 6-button system for around $150 or so on Ebay.

For either system, you also need the Ford PATS Interface/bypass kit, the part number is 8L3Z-19G365-BA. It costs around $25 plus shipping. You just need your 2 master keys to program this kit. You don't have to take your truck to the dealer to program the PATS kit or the remote start/alarm system.

The first two remote start only systems above actually install pretty easy now, they come with a plug-in harness that plugs directly into our trucks. Then there’s only about 6 wires or so left that you have to splice-in yourself. The 6-button remote start with alarm system does not come with any type of plug-in harness, so you have to tap/splice all of the necessary wires (about 16 or so total). Most of the wires you tap into are along the steering column and driver's side kick panel/door sill, but there's also 1 or 2 wires that you tap into at the passenger side kick panel at the smart junction box (SJB).

Just select “installation instructions” and then “electronics” and within there are the remote start and alarm files.

I contacted PartGuyEd and he quoted $204.00 for the standard remote start kit and $36.00 for the PATS interface

I have the 3rd one posted above and was about $550 CDN installed by the dealer when I bought the truck....

I ordered the parts for the "basic" from Parts Guy Ed. Kits due in late this week.....maybe get installed on Father's day.

I went with the basic for the plug-in harness and minimal splices.

Will update in about a week.

UPDATE.....I ordered the basic kit from PartsGuyEd along with the PATS adapter that is required. SteveVFX4 offered great information and made the whole process un-complicated.
The shipment from PartsGuyEd took about 1 week and now the install task was at hand. I looked at the kit and I saw about 9 wires to splice plus several plug-in harnesses. The PATS adapter and antenna looked like the big challenge and the small area under the dash to work. The heat in South Texas is over 95 most days....so I called a smaller Ford dealer for assistance. They said they don't do the work but have an electronics person that comes around and does the install for $120.00.
I made the appointment and the install went perfect. I can't imagine how I got by without this added convenience for so long.

sounds good man. yeah most dealers don't have a clue about these systems and they do have a someone that comes in to install them.
