Rocker arm torque specs... advice?

While I'm doing my injectors I'm putting in new pushrods. What are the torque specs for the rocker arms? Is it 20 ft/lbs or 120 ft/lbs?

Also, any advice on installing the pushrods?

Good question. Subscribing.

I am doing head studs and springs/pushrods So all the torque specs we can get would be helpful.

That small of bolt will NOT take 120 FOOT POUNDS...
I'll try to look at my manual later if I remember...

Make sure the motor is clocked at the point on the CPS to the line on the crank shaft balancer..

Where's Travis and Cody? They just did pushrods in theirs...

What will that do?

Action4478 05-14-2010 09:00 AM

Manual says it important, keeps from bending the push rods & or valves at start up..

Action4478 05-14-2010 09:04 AM

From the manual :

CAUTION: Failure to follow the next step of this procedure could result in bent valves, causing severe engine damage.

Rotate the engine until the mark on the crankshaft damper is at 11 o'clock to prevent valve damage when installing the intake rocker arm and exhaust rocker arm.

Install push rods.

Install the intake rocker arm or exhaust rocker arm.

Install the two rocker arm bolts. Tighten rocker arm bolts evenly to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).

Install the valve cover gasket.

Connect the engine harness electrical connectors to the valve cover gasket.

Connect the electrical connectors to the fuel injectors and glow plugs.

Install the valve cover and bolts. Tighten bolts to 11 Nm (97 lb-ft).

Connect the vacuum pump hose to the vacuum pump.

Install the intake duct bracket and the two retaining nuts.

Install the crankcase breather assembly and the two retaining screws.

Install the intake duct tube assembly, the two retaining bolts and the clamps at the turbocharger and air cleaner. Connect battery ground cable.

If I had to guess , it might not be necessary depending on how long you wait to start the engine

Awesome. Thanks Rick.

Yes oh yes. I totally forgot about that one. Thanks.

I'm gonna be bumping it over several times after doing the Injectors, so I'll try to install the pushrods first with the mark at 11 0'clock.

Neal 97 250 05-14-2010 12:31 PM

Put the pushrods in there while the engine is at 11:00 then spin it.
Better safe than sorry.

Brown Falcon 05-14-2010 08:52 PM

Yep, I agree. I'll probably have my buddy helping me out do the pushrods while I'm tearing down the injectors.

An explanation of the 11 oclock position and why would be nice for the knowledge banks.
Anyone have an idea?
My best guess is that the lifters are all in a certain position that does not allow them to move without that pressure on them?

I like neals idea of turning it over by hand after install.

DZL JIM 05-15-2010 05:45 AM

Cool, I learned something today.
I never knew about the 11 o'clock deal.
I always rotate the motor to take the load off the rockers/rod I am working on.

Warning That's a typo there. The valve cover bolts should be in INCH pounds.

Also, the torque on the injector hold down bolts are 120 lb-in (INCH again).
