"DOOR AJAR" light wont go off???

My passenger side front door causes my "DOOR AJAR" light to stay on.....(2001 V-10 EX)
Can anyone tell me where to look in the door, and what to look for so I can fix this???.....Its getting annoying having the interior lights on for the first couple minutes everytime I start the truck

You can try spraying W-D 40 into the door latch assembly as thats where Ford, for some unknown ignorant reason, put the door trigger...Fords great idea has caused this to be such a common problem and its not a easy fix if the W-D 40 dont work....

If W-D 40 dont work you have to remove the door panel, remove the door latch and a few of the metal hanger things attached to the latch...Then locate the black thing twisted into the latch with 2 wires connected to it,twist that piece out and then you will find the trigger and you can ussually work it loose with some grease or W-D 40....

I've done that on mine and still get the light on unless I slam the rear gate pretty hard with an emphasis on the left hand side of the gate.

I wonder if it is possible to go to a junk yard and get the door switch off another vehicle with the regular button switch and drill a hole in the door of Excursion, install it and rewire it to that switch instead?

I think it would be easier to buy that little switch from Ford. I think they are $6. I am confused about the rear hatch door slamming..............I will start a new thread on it.

Im 100% sure you could, people add them all the time for aftermarket alarms and such and being the wire is there all you have to do is re-route it...I have the same issue with my rear hatch as the other guy does,it drives me insane!! Im going to take this one apart and fix it and if this happens anyone more, even 1 more time,im going to remove them all and replace them with a normal door trigger switch...I dont care if they are only $6 its a PIA to do each one and its going to happen again...Im going to invent a plug and play set-up for this issue one day and be rich....My mechanic tore apart this 2001 Windstar I just bought to re-sell and he screwed with it for some time and then he filed down the trigger some and all is good now...Its a Dumb idea and its as common as a cold!

Can I just grab the wires to the switch and close the circuit on them and not worry about it anymore?

I don't post very often, but I've encountered this problem in 2003 and after replacing all the door ajar switches and the door ajar light was still on, I found that the wiring harness in the rear passenger side door was chafing against a sharp ridge in the door and exposed the bare copper in one of the wires. I wrapped it up with electrical tape and the problem was solved.

I have had the same problem with basically the same solution as Scott, slamming the rear doors, especially the drivers side, it is usually fixed, I also sis the 3/8" tubing in the door seals, and it seems the problem is far less frequent.

When you pull the switch we should spray down the trigger inside the lock assembley so the switch can make the contact inside the lock.
