thanks radzer0.
now you understand the difference between hand calculation and the built in meter first hand.
nice one caycebugs.
sounds pretty close to the 6.4 (close enough for me anyway)
thanks guys!
looking forward to some more after you have 10k miles or so on 'em.

I do recall seeing a video of one of the promo trucks and when they passed by the odo it had about 32k miles on it. I can't remember exactly which video it was, but it was from a link somewhere on this site. That is definitely past the point where these motors should definitely be broken in.

Radzer, do you have any idea what set the CEL off? Hopefully it's nothing significant!

radzer0 05-11-2010 12:04 AM

No idea. I didnt have a CEL. Turned off the truck. Started it back up and it came on instantly.

That health report thing is a joke. I ran it, guess what it says. That my CEL is on.

:-missingt Well now that's helpful.

Let us know what they find.

radzer0 05-12-2010 07:36 PM

CEL has to do with the computer programing and the fuel presure adjustment it does for better MPG. Ford is supposidly working on a software fix for this as the truck thinks its a problem when it starts with presure a little low.

Here is my 3 fillups since the inital post with exact MPG from my android application ive been using now.

5/2/10 13.95
5/7/10 13.26
5/11/10 13.72

5/7/10 MPG is 99% city.

tbaker00 05-12-2010 07:50 PM

what app is that on your android and what kind of phone do you have? I would be interested in using that app

radzer0 05-12-2010 07:53 PM

its called "milage" with a picture of a gas pump. I got a incredible with android 2.1 on it.

You just put in milage, gallons, and price and it saves and gives you charts and history and all

Maybe there's hope yet. My 7.3 started out around 15 mpg's when brand new before working it's way up to around 20 (75/25 hwy/cty)

Tomahawk 05-12-2010 10:18 PM

My 6.4 gets 12.5-13 mpg 50% highway, 50% country roads, 45-65mph. I can't wait to get my 6.7.
I got a good laugh tonight, the 6.7 diesel forum now has more viewers than the 6.4 forum.:-missingt

Bump. Any updates lately? How many miles do you have now? Have you run out of DEF yet?

radzer0 06-17-2010 08:53 PM

Dash says under 1/2 a tank at 3000miles on the DEF. Heat has taken off down here. Had a week of extreme heat (high 90's) and i averaged around 10 on that tank. Its been steady around 12 though for average since i got it.

That's not a good sign. We don't consider it hot till it breaks 100. It's been 99 - 100 for the last week and a half here. My last fill up calculated 19.4 so heat doesn't have any effect on my mileage.

Have you changed your driving habits any, or does the DPF activate more when it's hot outside?

radzer0 06-17-2010 09:04 PM

Since ive gotten some milage it seems the DPF doesnt activate quite as much. I am still doing 99% city driving. your 19.4 sounds like alot of highway.

Rutcutter 06-18-2010 06:39 AM

Im down to around 13.5 with all intown stop and go and no light foot.. LOL
