dash pad covers?

hey I have a 1986 F-250 and i'm wondering:

has anyone installed a dash pad cover thing? (not the cheap carpet garbage. but like the one from LMC or jcwhitney?

If so, can I see some pics of those that have them installed or if possible the before/during/after installation. (I know not everyone takes pictures of their progress of restoration) thanks.

In my opinion, those things are a waste. I installed one from JC Whitney in my '85 and was plagued with problems. It looked great at first, it fit well and the install went smoothly. I follwed the directions to a T, but it didn't hold up well at all. It's supposed to be UV resistant, but mine warped and buckled in the corners. One cold morning I went out to start the truck, and the thing had curled into a U shaped mess. NPD was advertising repop dash pads with no price listed, but I haven't gotten a new catalog in a while from them so I don't know what they run, or if they're even out yet. I would look into one of those, I know I am for mine.

Being S.Ca, I have a suspicion they're very expensive. :-D I did give'm a call, but no one answered. I left a message with the details of my truck. I'll let ya'll know what they say when I get a call back, as far as price goes. I wouldn't mind having the Aux/gauges molded into the dash myself. I really like the way that looks.

I went through this about 2mths ago, looking for a cover. I found Palco Ind. that makes DashTop products. When talking with the sales person, I asked if they gave folks the option of having speaker holes or not, since these are the main problem with the dash. This person said they didn't offer that at that time, but would if enough folks asked. I don't believe it is much of a big deal in the production process to punch the holes out or not to. My '81 has one hole in the center, but I've since learned two smaller holes were added, on each side, to the newer years. This company also makes door panels and other interior pieces. There is a website and contact info on it. Check it out.

i bought a truck that had this cover on it and i thought it was original, but it wasn't,took it off and found the name, looked it up and found the site, here's a pic followed by the site <a href="http://s278.photobucket.com/albums/kk117/randysfords/?action=view&current=jeeps006.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/kk117/randysfords/jeeps006.jpg" border="0" alt="dash"></a> Ford Mercury Dash Covers

here's more on the dashpad Q. How does the limited lifetime warranty work and what are the details?
A. Every Coverlay product has been tested and certified to withstand extreme temperatures without wrinkling or warping. We guarantee a fit with every product that we sell and we offer a limited lifetime warranty. The "limited" refers to the fact that it is limited to the individual that purchased the dash cover or door panels and is non transferable. If you experience a defect within the first 90 days, we will replace the defective part at no charge to you. After 90 days, and for as long as you own the vehicle, you will be responsible for shipping cost only. Q. What do I use to attach the dash cover to my original dash? Do you supply this with the product? A. We use an RTV clear silicone adhesive, that you apply to the underside of the dash cover. Yes, we will supply you with the adhesive and a set of instructions.

i'll stick w/coverlay Tony, they are already colored and don't have to spray them but your prices are a little better, coverlay has door panels too from what i read, when they can fool me thinking its original i'm sold on them but its my first one and the truck was from texas and it looked good, just my opinion

1Aauto 05-04-2010 09:58 AM

That's fine. That picture looks pretty good.

parr4 05-04-2010 10:12 AM

Tony....your company may be selling a superior product but the small, grainy, out of focus photos prolly won't do much for customers or sales. Made in USA is a big plus, but that isn't enough. Price is one thing but the manufacturers reputation is more. What company makes the dash covers?
