A/C blows cold then gets warm. Any ideas?
 

I was wondering if anyone has had this issue and knows what's going on. I can turn on my a/c on a relatively cool day and it blows cold. After a while it gradually begins to blow warmer air. On a hot day it struggles to even start out blowing cold air and quickly gets warm.

Last summer it would do this and drip water on the passenger's floor mot from just underneath the dash. A shop that I had work on the issue at that time said some portion of the A/C system had mud or dirt in it that caused it to condense moisture internally and mix with the "dirt" and created a mud like consistency. This supposedly reduced the effectiveness of my a/c causing it to begin blowing warmer air. His solution was to spray water inside the blower area up next to the passenger's side firewall through an access point created by removing some kind of electrical sensor or relay. I'm not sure what the electrical component really is though.

This "fix" only worked for part of the day I got it back from the shop then it started to get warm again and dripped water on passenger floor mat. So far this year I haven't had to use the a/c much, but it really doesn't work worth a darn on days above 75 and I haven't experienced the drip on the floor mat this year either.

it sounds like you need to check the airgap in your compressor clutch, and maybe replace the clutch. Mine was doing the same thing for the past few weeks. replaced clutch and all is well.

I would check the evaporator drain first
Dirt in the evaporator core (or other air restriction) could cause icing causing it to blow warm air but it should drain on the ground not the floor
I haven't looked at this truck but some you can pull the blower motor and wash the evaporator core

Marv, that was a great plast from the past...i went out and tested mine, and guess what...???...the clutch didn't re-engage itself, but did when i tapped with the screwdriver...i guess i get to work on my truck...:-X16...i suppose i need to rep you yet again for good info...:-banghead
