building a bad ass 302!

i got a 96 f150 standard cab short bed
its got a 302
it has an a/m air intake and a exhaust upgrade (just a muffler)
it has a 4" suspension lift and 33"tires soon to be 35's

WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE IT ONE OF THE BADEST TRUCKS ON THE ROAD!!

headers? cams? heads? borekits? maifolds? what can i do?!!??!

Gears, heads, cam, headers. Yep 300 BHP should be easy. Gotta' love the domestic small block.

On the other hand, a stroker kit would be nice, but maybe not worth it. Regearing the 4WD will sap some funds...

pats302 04-28-2010 09:48 PM

ok so gears heads cams headers, give me brands and examples and suggestions

pats302 04-28-2010 09:49 PM

how about LATTER BARS haha

PIKE 04-28-2010 10:44 PM

It's ladder bars and what do you want this thing to be?

Hitokori 04-28-2010 11:52 PM

o.O he wants it to be a fire truck LMAO....

evidently he wants some superb traction for those 35's

This is the question to end all other crazy dead-ends and cubic dollar mistakes.

Since it wasn't specified, I'll assume that the goal is to make this truck as fast as possible without regard to practicality, fuel milage, sustainability, ease of maintenance, or any other "kick-knack" reality check that we face when selecting parts and planning upgrades:

-Contact Boeing and obtain a RS-27A first-stage rocket left over from the Delta II program;

-With minor bodywork and some wind tunnel research, affix said rocket true to parallel to the plane of motion, compensating for the weight of the apparatus;

-Fuel up!

-Hang on!

I recommend ladder bars to assist with the suspension geometry shortcomings during the launch, and you might want to prepare yourself for the 4.5g's that are inevitable once the rocket achieves full speed. That'll teach 'em at the red light!

On second thought, if you don't have access to a large cache of liquid oxygen and hydrazine, you should probably warm-over that 302.

Again, echoeing zxwut, it all depends on what you want out of the vehicle.

-If you want to pull the motor, do a CHP 347 kit, or even safer, do an intermediate 331-stroker kit.

-Upgrade the cylinder heads if you are at all serious about power. I recommend AFR 165's for 302 displacement or 185's for strokers. Alternatively, use Edelbrock's Performer RPM heads and a cam suited to match. Your power potential's "ceiling" will be determined by your heads more than any other factor.

It seems as though this went nowhere, just as I figured it would.

Yeap, I think the Boeing rocket upgrade might be cost-prohibitive, but it would be the "baddest thing on the road".

93-octane being as magical a liquid as it is, there's just no comparison to hydrazine and single-digit-Kelvin-oxidiser. Oh well. It would've been perfect with those ladder bars. -TK

You guys are funny:-X14.... but then so is asking how to make a 302 into a badass truck motor.

Bob Gervais 04-30-2010 09:31 AM

Yeah, but maybe we can make a mediocre-ass truck motor? Turbo, Nawz, Supahcharger... :)

I think even that starts with a 347 stroker kit.. big tires requires big TQ and that requires more cubes. But if you're going to do that it's more cost effective to just start with a 5.8 and add the stroker kit. Then.. you got something that could be considered Badassed.

I know how to make a 302 in a lite SB 2wd truck Bad Ass , but with a 4x4 with 35s the more cubes the better ...Lew
