ARP headstuds + labor=
Getting ready to do my headstuds and would like to get your opinion.. The guy (which Ford told me about if I wanted aftermarket installs done)that has done my MODs has refered me to a Ford Tech to do my headstuds so that I can get it done under warranty and is only charging $300. That really doesn't sound, while doing my searches, the price was in the thousands. Should I run or feel safe?

time to ask a lot of questions.
|
Who is buying the studs? They are over $400. I agree with Cheezit, questions time
|
This is the guy evidentally that is making it hard for the honest techs to do anything
|
Sounds like......
Maybe the tech is claiming the headgaskets under warranty and charging the $300 on top for the stud install.
|
Thats what my tech wanted to do. Install the studs for some warrenty claim and id get charged 100 bucks. (the deductable)
|
I sent the OP a PM and got him directed to a very reputable tech very close to where he lives. Someone that knows what he's doing that won't screw him and will do the work correctly.

From my understanding... its not being done under a warranty claim, but will protect my warranty if I do run into trouble later regarding engine trouble. I have the ARPs and the labor will cost $300.

so what is going to happen is he is going to install studs and use the same gaskets doing it one bolt at a time. or at least thats how I take it.
I would pass. thats my .02 |
My opinion.....

ask him how he's doing the job.
if swap out is the case then the price is correct. if your gaskets are already gone it is a waste of time. if not, i have heard of this being done and working. |
I would be really concerned about how he's doing the job also. I've heard of people doing a one at a time stud for bolt swap, but it's a crappy fix. If you're going to do the job then have it done CORRECTLY the FIRST time and you'll actually save yourself $200. At least talk to the guy I told you about. He's a top notch tech. PERIOD.

The debate over the one stud at a time method will never end. Many have done this and been successful. The deciding issues for me would be:
1. How many miles on the engine and how is it running 2. Do I have puking issues present that indicate a possible bad head gasket 3. What condition is my oil cooler in? Low miles, no puking and a good oil cooler would be worth the small risk. If I had any of these thing going on, I would pull the heads I would be more worried about the non-stock intake the OP has on his truck Regards Ricatic |
