Drove a 6.2L Raptor Today`
not too impressed with the power output. Nice truck but was expecting more of a kick. I will pass

You weren't impressed with 411 hp/434 lb-ft? I've got to say I'm surprised. The truck only weighs ~6,000 lb so that should be plenty of power.
|
Im also suprised. Mike over on the Super Duty forum has a 2011 F-250 with the 6.2L and he posted a video and that truck will flat out fly. I figured that the Raptor would be crazy with 6.2 but we will see i guess.

Dont get me wrong its a nice truck but was expecting far more in the power dept. I am used to high HP vehicles and was thinking it would spank my 7.3L diesel but it did not feel as good. Add some mods and a blower and it would help. The tall 35" tires also have an effect. Drove it approx 20 miles and decided to pass on buying it. Most likely will go with the new 6.7 instead.

You must have one modded up 7.3 to not think much of the Raptor. |
First off, did you turn off the nannies? They're seriously aggressive. If you turn off the traction control, it'll spin the $400 BFGs into vapor. The Raptor's quick. The quarter mile times prove it. It's not about being a pavement light to light winner with this thing anyway. I'll motor down a bad road or stretch of offroad at a pace that'll dismantle anything else on the showroom floor.
One thing about the Raptor, it's QUIET. Watch the speedo, it's quick. I've noticed this effect with guys I ride ATVs with. They put on a pipe and say "Oh yeah, I can feel it in the seat of my pants, what a difference!" when all they did was make their ride louder. We drag race, and I'm side by side with 'em. The noise makes in an illusion of speed. A Raptor has been tested to have a more quiet interior than a BMW 750i at all speeds. |
My old sierra denali could keepup with the 6.2 raptors on paper. Crew cab and loaded out. Im sure thats part to do with the fact the tires were 32.5 and the raptor is 35. But price wise the raptor is one thing I wouldnt go for. And at the price you can get a nice 6.7L.
Untill the crew cab model rolls off the lines its still a novelty truck like the lightning was. But at the lightnings time more people still bought regular cab trucks vs now. |

16+ second quarter mile is not exactly quick!

It's pretty quick for a truck, but I would expect the Raptor to be 12-13 second quarter. Isn't the crew cab Tundra a 14 second truck? I would hope the Raptor would be a second or so faster.
My friend has a new CTS-V and its mid 12's. 556hp and over 2000lb less than a raptor. |
They just did a segment on Motorweek this Saturday and it turned a 16.7 (iirr) 1/4 mile. I'm sorry, this is not fast in anyones book- perhaps in a 1/8 mile or 0-60 feet it shows much more than in the quarter and probably due to a combination of weight & tire size. But the ol Chevy S10 4 bangers in the 1970's ran tall 16's in the 1/4 mile. (Yes I was around then and yes I really am a Ford guy)

1/4 is 15.7 i believe for the 6.2l raptor. Heck my sig rig does a 16.5. with almost nothing done to it but a tune.

The Raptor is not meant to be a replacement for the Lightening. Try driving the Lightening at 80 mph off-road in Baja.
