how much refrigerant

How many pounds or cans of A/C refrigerant goes in a 2003 ford excursion with the 5.4L. Also is it pretty easy to find where to put it in. Thanks

Do you have rear A/C?

frankyford 04-03-2010 05:16 PM

Yes, it's got rear A/C.

cbradford 04-03-2010 05:19 PM

I posted a pic of the tag awhile back, I'll see if I can find.

You know, sometimes I just have one of those days where my brain doesn't work very well. Thank you for looking, but I just found the same tag under my hood and for some reason I just didn't think to look there. I need some sleep, I did 1400 miles in 2 days and I'm wore slap out. Thanks again for looking

cbradford 04-03-2010 05:56 PM

Does your sticker indicate the same amount as mine?

frankyford 04-04-2010 07:26 AM

Yeah, it's the exact same one. I just didn't think to look there, I did however look in the owners manual but it wasn't in there.

And you know to add refrigerant it's the larger line you want to add to, that's the suction line and if it not totally empty you wont need to add the total amount. Be sure not to get any air in the system as this will cause the discharge pressure to run higher and the system will not perform properly.

I'm probably going to take it tomorrow to Legacy Ford where my brother-in-law works and have him just do a complete check on it. All I'll get charged for is the freon.

Might be a good idea if your not sure what your doing, plus you need a manifold gauge set to properly add refrigerant.

frankyford 04-04-2010 08:14 AM

I've done it on other vehicles, but not this new. I'm sure if I took my time I could figure it out, but I'd rather let someone else do it, so I don't waste all day trying.
