a/c compressor change, what type OIL and how much ?

after 300k rounds, my a/c compressor is not quite right. Having clutch issues and just gonna change the entire thing, along with the accumulator and orifice tube. BUT, I cant find what type of oil i need or how much. I have PAG oil, will this work ? and how much ?

Depends on what refrigerant you're going to refill with.

If the crappy r134a, then you have to use an equally crappy PAG oil as r134a is NOT compatable with mineral oil.

If it were me, I would spare no expense when it comes to PAG oil. The stuff is a marginally adequate (or inadequate?) lubricant and I would do a LOT of research to find out if there is a brand or formulation that is better for our systems. Much like you're doing here!

The stuff Ford used at the factory back when these trucks were built seems pretty darned good. If only we had a way to know what it was!

yup, 134a. how crappy of pag oil do I need ? anything specific ? I am gonna replace the compressor tonight and would like to get this all done at once. Thanks for the original answer, as vague as it was, still had humor to it.
