Need help with 2006 Expedition front brakes

1 Attachment(s)
So I went to replace the front pads yesterday and ran into a sticking point. It appears I don't have the correctly sized hex to get off the caliper sliding pins on the back side of the caliper.

Does anyone know the size of these? I tried 8mm, 5/16 which were too small and 10mm and 3/8 seemed to be too large. Also, is it good practice to replace these as well? Slightly frustrated at this point. Thanks for any help on this.

Wouldn't that leave 9mm?? Damn, should have bought the 15pc. hex key set!

Yea, I assume that.... but you know what they say about assuming :)

Yes it's a 9mm, which most hex set do not have. If you have a Sears nearby, you can go and get one from them.

Sorry, I can't help it, it's a curse. :-X06

Kragen auto parts stores also carry it if you have one near you.

Well two of the Sears and all auto parts stores don't have it along with harbor freight and tractor supply. Guess I have to wait until one comes in the mail :( . No kragens here BTW

If you remove the entire caliper the slides come apart without removing those slide bolts. It's a bit tougher to put back together with the outside spring clips, that darn internal spring inside the caliper and the pads...but patience will make it work.

If you don't want to wait...go to a hardware store, get 2 bolts with 9mm heads and 4 nuts to fit the bolts. Screw two nuts on to the ends of each bolt, then tighten them together real tight. Now you can stick the head of the bolt into the caliper bolt and use a socket or wrench on the nuts to spin it out.

Home depot. The Huskey 13 & 26 piece kits include a 9mm Hex Key. ;)
