85 Ford F250 Tailgate Trim. Where to get!
 

Hi Guys I've got the cleanest 85 F250 you'll probably ever see that i just inherited. (6.9 diesel) . The only problem is the rear tailgate trim has got a few dents and the reflector is busted. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of one. The 1985 one has the ribbed reflector lens. (i guess most of you guys know that) sorry. I didn't but then again i'm a new GM convert. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Those are starting to become pretty rare finds. I know a guy who bought a complete truck, just because it had a good tailgate piece.
I don't know if any of the reproduction parts suppliers sell them or not.

Those particular aluminum finish panels are obsolete from Ford, and NO reproduction parts suppliers sells the 1985 - 1986 version. Trust me, I have checked EVERYWHERE.

The 1980 - 1984 are reproduced, and so are the 1987 - 1991 and the 1992 - 1996 panels. For some reason, the 1985 - 1986 version is just forgotten. And in my opinion, those are best looking ones ever made. Dennis Carpenter Reproductions have been "promising" these since 2004, and they still don't have any.

The only place I know of would be Ebay. I have seen some pretty good ones come up from time to time.

If your clean 1985 F250 is a "Lariat" and has the optional upper black/chrome/black adhesive moulding that starts below the front side marker light and runs the length of the truck like mine does, TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF IT, because that is not available either...ANYWHERE. The 1980 - 1984 trim moulding, as well as the 1987 - 1991 and the 1992 - 1996 is reproduced, but once again, the 1985 - 1986 upper moulding is forgotten about.

It is made from unobtainium. Very rare and very expensive. There was ONE at carlisle last year, it was attached to a VERY beat up tailgate and still went for 250. I was able to repair my reflector, just eh backing was messed up. I just need two of the letters, O and D. So for it is proving an impossible task.

Possibly the worst F'in news I've seen in a long time...

I need the Tailgate piece and some chunks of the Upper trim! Actually I just need the Reflector on the Tailgate, the aluminum is in good shape.

I have (3) of these. One already on a mint condition 85 Tailgate, 1 nice one I was able to salvage from the yard (they are dam near impossible to find as you found out) and one basicaly new one that recd. dmage at some point, so I may be able to get the pieces off of it you could use. I'll check tonight.

Does anyone know if the panels are interchangeable? Do they all mount the same? Can I take the panel from a 1987 or a 1992 and put it on my 1986? I know it won't be period correct but I need to cover up those wholes somehow and I can find the other pieces at a decent price.

I know this post is a little old (ok, a lot old), but, I have one off my 86 Ford F250 I just sold. No dents, dings, or gouges, reflector is not broken, tabs on the back are not busted... just a little chrome rubbed off the Ford part of it.
