COP question for 97 E-150 5.4L

I am looking to replace my COP's on my 97 E-150 with aftermarket units but MSD only lists them from 99 and up!

I chatted with MSD and they did not know if they would work on the 97 model year!

Does anyone know of any aftermarket COPs that will work for my 97?

I would have expected pre-99 engines to have a coil pack, but it's possible all the 5.4s had COPS. Being so, I believe the break in the COPs are in the 2v vs 3v motors and as long as you put 2v COPs in a 2v motor you're set.

A coil is a coil for the most part, the big factors in finding a bolt on coil pack would be the boots and the plug.

Here's a set of 8 for about $80.00

I just put in 8 COPs from ebay, and all issues went away! Great product too!

Real pain to put these in on driverside but still ok!

would be nice if the original poster would stop back by and say what he did.....and MAYBE say "THANKS". And it would be nice if I could read before I write!!!! Sorry PStruwing!

IMO I'd stay with oem COP's they last longer.

Sorry for the delay in responding, been busy with work and Scouting. I replaced all 8 cop's to save the work of doing them one by one as they go!

I found that my 97 had all Ford parts but 3 different styles, factory and two different ford replacements. I also at the same time replaced all plugs with Autolite Double Plat. Gapped at 54. The one in #4 had a bad boot and the misfire was clearly seen as being here!

Doing this on the E-150 was easy on passenger side, but a pain on the driver’s side as I had to remove a bracket in order to mover fuel rail in order to get the cop's and plugs.

All went good, misfire is gone! But have the odd idle stumble here and there after 300km's of driving.

Oh and thanks for the help!

Been a year since replacing my COPs with eBay stuff and they are still working great!

Thanks All!
