Good reliable junk-yards?
 

Would like to compose a list of good reliable salavage yards in the great state of Tennessee.
Looking for ones that are open to the public and are not trying to get rich off one sell. I like Pull-a-part in Nashville, they have a great selection usually avaiable for a large range of vehicle's.
So where are the other ones located?:-whud
I use to visit Tennessee Auto Salavage off exit 35 I-24 towards Springfield; but they only cater to body shops; won't allow individuals to walk the line.

If you are close to woodbury they have one there called Pelhams. They have the best prices of any I know of. The mostly have 1985 and newer but there use to be a truck junkyard across the road and up the road about 1000 feet. I haven't found anyone close to the service of pelhams. You can look around and pull parts but ask first to let them know you are there. I have found out they are sometimes half or better on parts. I checked in Cookeville for a standard jack like it is used in a cavalier. I wanted 4 for a camper. The cheapest I found in Cookeville was 20 bucks each, they had them at pelhams for 5 each.

Depends on what you want we use Knox Auto Parts, Knoxville TN where we have a local TN Chapter member Justin (Tnscrambler) that works there and can help us out on new model stuff and alot of cash for clunkers stuff.
Also we have pullapart for the older stuff.

Thanks guys; as mention I would love to compile a list that allows members to now where the best price for parts are located; also as I travel thru the state; you never know how close you are to a good reliable yard.

There is a Warrens Auto Salvage (931) 596-2607
down in Manchester and another North OF Shelbyville (931) 684-8176. Havent been to Warrens in a while but he is all FORD. The one in Shelbyville is a mix. Warrens at one time let you walk the yard. Last time I was at both you could walk the yard. I work at a yard part-time in Lavergne. Not a walk the yard freely place (burnt from customers damaging other parts to get their part). We have had 58 Galaxie, and 73-79 F100's come thru here lately. Occassionaly I can look for a part if a guy needs something. HEY Mitch wont be able to make the M&G this weekend their in Clarksville.

yeah im with donald i havent been to Warrens but i have heard they are ALL ford.

and Donald which yard do you work at in La Vergne???

I have been to Warren's. It has just been a couple of years since I been down there. I work at Express.

oh and everyone stay AWAY from Grays in La Vergne. bout a 1/3 of the stuff is stolen and they are straight up theives basically.

Does anyone know about the junkyard called Youngs? It was half way between Smyrna and Murfreesboro if I remember.. I went there when I was living in Nashville. I remember they had a lot of early iron, but that was in the mid 80s. I remember some 40s panel seems like and a old REO truck if I remember. Is it still there and how are they on parts these days.

Youngs is a good yard. They do most of their business thru Ebay nowadays. I dont think they carry as much old iron as you remember. They are good people. Mr Jack Young, the owner comes down to our yard sometimes just to visit.

Agree with Donald on Youngs. I bought alot of axles for F150s from them back in the late 90s and early 2000. Great to work with!

The yard I work at part-time is the old Larry Stewart place. The guy I work for bought the place from Larry. A buddy of mine hears from Larry every now and then. He is still building cars. I used to go over to Stewarts and look at the old truck stuff he had.

Donald thought you might know Larry, very creative guy. I've been to the shop at his house a few times and he is still putting cars together his way.
