Putting a flatbed on my 04 Super duty V10
 

A couple of questions. I got rear ended two months ago. My body man says it will cost over $4000 to fix. I am thinking about just replacing the stock bed with a steel flatbed. The bed comes as a one piece unit with headache rack, and all the lights. It also has a built in goose neck hitch. Total cost $2300, includes shipping I have a guy that will put it in for around $1000, including hardware. I was going to put a pop up goose neck hitch in before the wreck, anyway. The first question is Does this sound like a good deal? Second does anyone know of a dealer within 100 miles on 12771, who might do better? Third, and last question does anybody have any experiences, (good, or bad) with these flatbeds?

That price you have looks pretty good depending on what you are getting.

Have you considered installing a new take-off bed at a cost of $1,000-$1,200? What all was damaged in the accident?

I've considered this myself and priced a few options. The $2300 sounds fair for the bed, but a grand to install is way over the top in my opinion. What company are you going with for the bed? My local welding shop priced a homemade flat bed for $1500 for my short box sd. Install it yourself and save the cash.

Depends what quality you want. I parted out Chevy flatbed years ago and having the flatbed bed in solid condition - couldn't sell it for $500. Finally after advertising for 6 months I build a tool shed out of it.
Having forklift -taking the bed off was less than 1 hr job. Would gladly take $500 for re-installation.

Why $4000? You can usually get a new bed for a lot less. Installation isn't hard. You just need to get it painted to match.

Look on eBay. There are always a few beds for sale.

Let me explain. I do a lot of side work. I haul around a compact back hoe, and I cut a lot of wood. It was only a matter of time before I dented up the truck bed,on my own. It was almost a blessing the other guy hit me. I also have to get a bigger trailer to haul around the bigger back hoe. Just before I was rear ended I had priced out putting in a pop up goose neck hitch $700-$800. My thinking was, why bother getting the stock bed fixed/replaced, when I know its just a matter of time before I ding up the bed again. When you consider, that the flat bed is steel, and it comes with a built in Goose neck hitch, it seems to me to be the way to go. also I only put about 3000 miles a year on this truck. I plan on having it for a while. Just subtracting the cost of the hitch I will have to buy, puts the price of the bed down to $1500-$1600.

$1000 for an install is outrageous. The farm supply store in Roswell NM will sell a CM steel flatbed for $1800 & install it for $300. It's not hard to take off the oldbed on your own too. They'll usually knock some off the price if you do that..........

All I can say, is I live in the peoples republic of NY. I am still looking.

what I'm say is, look up prices on the net. You may actually save money by driving somewhere...

You can find complete beds on craigslist from 500-1200 all day.
